Airsoft AEG stands for an “automatic electric gun.” Airsoft guns are powered in three different ways and these include electric powered (as in the AEG), gas-powered and spring powered. Airsoft AEGs are the most popular kinds of airsoft guns that are purchased by airsoft enthusiasts today. They are the guns of choice where competitions are concerned. One of the most well known is the Tokyo Marui.
The airsoft AEG is capable of firing 300 to 900 rounds every minute and they can reach up to approximately 200 to 400 feet per second (fps) muzzle velocities (thats 60 to 120 m/s for those of the ‘metric persuasion’). Either nickel cadmium (NiCad) aor nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries packs are required for these guns and all are of the rechargeable type. The different types of batteries used for an airsoft AEG include an 8.4V large battery (approximately 2400 mAh), 8.4V “mini” battery (9600 mAh) and larger ones such as the 7.2 V and all sizes up to the 12 V. It is a generally recognized that the higher level the mAh is, the longer life the battery will retain. On the other hand, a higher voltage equals a higher rate of fire (abbreviated to RoF).
The rechargeable battery of an airsoft AEG engages the electric motor which then circles about the spring assembly and internal piston and makes it possible for pellets to be shot out. These guns are can be both automatic and semi-automatic types of weapons.
Airsoft AEGs are constructed to look as close to a real weapon as possible. Non-airsofters often cannot tell the difference. Leading the way among manufacturers for this type of weapon is the company Classic Army (Yick Fung).
