Alert! Yesterday, we went to Congress to meet with House majority Floor Leader Arthur Defensor regarding the status of HB No. 6776. He informed us that it had just left his desk and had gone to the plenary session for 2nd reading. Alarmed, Ms. Gina Angangco stayed that evening to observe the proceedings. The 2nd reading was finished in 45 minutes flat. Not a single congressman stood up to object to the bill or to propose any amendments.
Today, at 5pm, the Congress proceeded to vote and HB No. 6776 was passed.
We are coordinating tonight with Jack Enrile of PPSA and FAMAP regarding our opposition in the Senate. This bill must not pass in the Senate or else it will become law. Let us not be complacent. Let us remain ever vigilant. We are up against the most powerful forces in this Country and they are out to railroad the proceedings. But we are prepared to make a last stand in the Senate.
